Stuart II Hardware

The hardware for this system is an Apple ][ microcomputer with a forty megabyte hard disk storage device. Also in the system are a language card, NEC and Silentype printers, DC Hayes Micromodem ][, dual floppies, and a Mountain Computer Expansion Chassis. There are a number of other devices attached that are not normally used by the BBS software.

The hard disk is a Winchester-type unit from a company named Santa Clara Systems. It's been in use since May of 1982, and about 11 megabytes are set aside for the exclusive use of the Stuart II software. The unit cost about $8,000.00.

The computer itself is extensively modified internally. Among other things, the keyboard is a Videx Enhancer ][, which allows full upper and lower case text entry, plus keyboard macros and many other functions. In addition, most of the on-board roms have been converted to eproms and extensively altered.
