So here's the idea. You've got two years to earn or save the money. Most of you in high school will be graduating (graduation gifts eh?), the rest of you in college on vacation, the rest of us in the working world can certainly save a weeks vacation to create a 3 week vacation sometime that summer right?
So anyway, I'm thinking in putting together a custom group tour for this (cut costs and increase the fun). Without going into details here are some ideas. Depart by plane to Hawaii and spend a day or two before flying on to Australia.
Spend a couple of days at expo, then tour other parts of Australia (ride the train across the South East part, visit the Great Barrier Reef). Return to Brisbane for another couple of days at the expo (Expo 86 in Vancouver needed 4-5 days for a complete visit, but 5 days straight would be exhausting, so we break in the middle for other touring). So now we're completely exhausted right? Need a rest right? Ok (you'll love this), return to Hawaii via cruise ship! Rest, fun, good food, a real vacation - end with a flight back to the bay area.
So what do you say? Sounds fun eh? Anyway, this is what I'm planning - I'm posting it now because such a trip would not be cheap. Even with group rates, sharing hotel rooms and so on it would probably run $1500 - $2000. I won't start making any firm plans for at least a year, but I'd be curious to hear from any of you who might be interested. I'm also curious about other possibilities - combining the visit with a stop in Japan or New Zealand for example?......
