I think that the above unfortunate situation may have resulted from misunderstandings among the three of you. You do not say how old the child was, but a very young child that has not come into contact with many animals (many earth children who live in city apartments have no experience with animals except for seeing them in completely unrealistic and violent cartoons, where animals blown up or run over by trains just get up and start chasing each other again) may not know that pulling an animal's tail will hurt it. If the child has never been bitten or clawed by a cat before then he probably thought he was playing with you. And if you were not hissing and clawing like a normal cat, the mother (who probably had her attention on other things) would have just thought that the two of you were playing together. If you ever get in a situation like this again, either with a child or dog or other animal, you should try to act as much like a real cat as possible. It will keep you out of trouble and teach the perhaps unwitting tormentor that he or she should not treat other creatures that way. I am surprised to hear you say that children on your world always do as they are told. That kind of attitude on Earth produces people who get used horribly by armies, governments, bosses and corrupt authorities of all sorts. You would think that the sort of society (sorry Max!) that values unconditional obediance over questioning and challenging the established order would have never developed space flight. What do you think about this?- I think you're not quite seeing it correctly.
