Look Out: The Mental Me.

When I think of "mental", I think of intelligence. And when I think of intelligence, the first thing I think of is all of those basic middle-class schoolkid indicators of "smarts". The thing is, I keep getting mixed messages about myself from those indicators.

I could read in kindergarten. My forst report card (1st grade) was "straight A's". They went downhill from then on. But my first "B" was under "writes legibly". I tested out as "gifted" in 2nd grade but got a "C" in science that year. i had some disciplinary run-ins with a teacher leading to my being kicked out of 6th grade at the end of the first semester -- into 7th grade. My 7th grade math teacher thought I was too dumb to take an aptitude test designed to weed out students who could take high school algebra in 8th grade. I got the 2nd highest score of all 8th graders at my school. I took high schooalgebra in 8th grade and failed to get the "B's" required for high{_ school sredit. In high school, I would get A",{_ "B", and "C" all on one report card. According to various Mensa members that use Stuart, I could join ~ron the basis of my SAT scores (upper 2 percentile), but my college greades are far bew this level. Sometimes ifeel smart; sometimes dumb. What gives?

Damn static.

  1. I left the above message when I was a precocious newcomer to Stuart.
