Thirty Questions Games

These games are very similar to the familiar Twenty Questions party game. I will think of something, and you will add messages that either ask a question or attempt to guess what it is I'm thinking of. Each time I think of something, I will add a message in the section "Unsolved Games" (below) and start a new game. When someone (or something; we have many non-humans on the system!) solves a game, the entire game tree will be summarized into one message and moved into the section "Solved Games".

There are some very specific rules about how to play this game. If you don't follow them your entries will be deleted without notice. So pay attention!

First, there are only two things you may do within a Thirty Questions game: You may ask a question, or you may make a guess.

To ask a question, simply append a no-text message directly underneath my starting message. It should be a question that has a yes/no answer, and it should be a question whose answer will provide new information not already determined. Any question that has text, or that is improperly formatted for a no-text message (see the help section, or do it the way the rest of the questions are done) or that is, for any reason, not "right" will be deleted.

When I see your question, I will ponder it and come up with an answer, which I will add as a no-text message beneath your question. There are several possible answers: First, the answer could be "* Yes". It could be "* No". It could be "* I don't know". And it could be "* Ambiguous", which would mean that the question in some way doesn't apply to what I'm thinking about and thus can't be answered. And finally, I might say "* Maybe", which would mean that the answer could be yes or no, depending on various other things.

To make a guess, add a no-text message of the form "* I think you're thinking of a _______" or "* I think you're thinking of an ______". Any guesses not formatted in this exact fashion will be invalidated by deletion. If a guess is not correct, I'll add a message beneath it with the title "* You're wrong". If it's correct, I'll add "* You're right!" and you'll get whatever points you deserve. The game will then be closed, summarized, and moved into the Solved Games section.

The scoring is pretty straightforward. Each game will have a point value indicated by the first message in the game's menu. I'll add that each time I start a new game. As the game progresses, the point value may change. If everyone is on the wrong track, the point value may go up. It's not likely that it will ever go down.

When the game is solved, the solver will receive the number of points for the game, less two points for each incorrect guess that person/creature/thing has made in the game.

If the solution occurs very early in the game, there's a good chance I may award extra points for cleverness. I may also award extra points if the questions leading up to the correct guess are extremely well-reasoned.

That's it, folks. I may add hints from time to time.... other than that, you're on your own. Gather those points!
